Traditional Guacamole
Patrick Deloulay
Fresh, creamy traditional guacamole made with ripe avocados, lime, onion, cilantro, and a little heat. Quick to make and full of bright, classic flavor, it’s perfect with tortilla chips, tacos, or grilled meats.
Ingredients
- 3 or 4 ripe avocados
- 1 white onion (Red as backup)
- 1 tomatoe (skipped for true guacamole)
- 2 tbsp cilantro (chopped fresh)
- 1 jalapeno (chopped thin)
- 1 garlic clove (chopped thin)
- pepper
- salt
- 1 lime (for juice!)
Steps
- Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl. Use ripe avocados so they mash easily and give the guacamole a smooth, creamy texture.
- Finely chop the onion, and if using, dice the tomato and mince the jalapeño and garlic. Add them to the bowl and stir gently so the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the avocado
- Add the lime juice and salt, then mash everything together with a fork until the guacamole is mostly smooth but still a little chunky. That bit of texture gives it a more traditional homemade feel
- Taste and adjust as needed with a little more lime juice, salt, or a pinch of pepper. You can also add a bit more jalapeño if you want extra heat
- Serve right away for the best flavor and texture. Guacamole is best fresh and does not refrigerate well, as it can brown and lose its bright taste.
